Hey there! Glad to see you finally made it. It’s yours truly, Zach Stanley, and this blog is all about my life.
In order to fully absorb what the next few months have in store, I figured it might be smart to start things off with a quick introduction. You already know my name, but who exactly am I?
Well, that’s a bit of a loaded question. For starters I’m a senior at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill studying at the Hussman School of Journalism and Media. My focus is in advertising and public relations, which I hope to someday apply in the world of sports marketing.
I grew up in a small town just outside of Charlotte and my childhood was characterized by a love for sports, both watching and participating. From a young age, I followed Carolina Basketball religiously. The Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Braves were quick to follow suit. To this day, that love for said teams still persists. I’m so invested that when the Panthers lost Super Bowl 50, I sat on the tailgate of my truck for hours and cried. And then, did the same thing after North Carolina’s heartbreaking loss to Villanova in 2016 just a few months later. Call me a wack job if you want, but sports give my life meaning.
Furthermore, I am a member of Pi Lambda Phi fraternity, which has provided me with a valuable support system throughout nearly all of my college experience. Sure, things get a little wild from time to time and I am confident in my ability to beat anyone in a drinking game of their choosing, but parties are just the tip of the iceberg. I’ve had to deal with some of the most difficult decisions of my life during my time at Carolina and if not for the guys around me, I’m not sure I would’ve made it out. There is no doubt in my mind that after graduation and starting a life of my own, I will keep in touch with these same men for years to come.
While COVID-19 has been a nightmare at best, there have been some silver linings, at least for me. I found a girlfriend in May of last year who I have grown to love wholeheartedly and her unwavering support has, without a doubt, helped to get me through the pandemic. I mean she practically lives at my apartment now. Likewise, my parents separated which may sound dark and depressing, but believe me, it was for the best on both accounts. And most recently, I got a job working at a nearby Olive Garden. It’s not much, but it pays the bills and lifts some financial stress off of my shoulders.
I’ve been pursuing some of my own passions amongst all the craziness in the world right now, which has included starting my own podcast, writing a few original songs and even working on some artwork that I hope to begin releasing soon.
So yeah, there’s a little bit about me. All in all, I’m happy with where my life is at right now and I’m looking forward to what is to come after graduation.
Of course, if you have any questions feel free to drop a comment down below or reach out to me on social media. Why not make a few more connections right?
Stanley out.
